Temporary adaptation of the "Palau d'Esports" of Barcelona as a Musical Theatre

In the last 45 years, the Palau d’Esports de Barcelona has played host to numerous cultural and sports events. We saw our intervention as one more episode within this cycle.

A textile airbag created an interior volume independent of the pre-existing space to generate optimal environmental conditions (acoustics, lighting and comfort, etc.) for a musical theatre.

Given the extreme lightness of the existing structure holding up the roof, the airbag was held up independently by cables attached to its ends running from the box forming the stage to the structure of the stands.

This process made it possible to mould and texturise a black interior space in which the boundaries are blurred and the attention is focused on the stage.

The airbag was dismantled in 24 hours and the original appearance of the Palau d’Esports was restored.
